Mike Barile
Story by JRock & Lee Sheridan
Every Now and then we all see a new talent that will rise within the riding community. Some will flourish and others will fall within the mainstream. Then there are some that stay under the radar and let their work speak for itself, and in this case speak volumes. About a year ago, while I was at the Suffolk County Car and Bike Show, I met Mike Barile, a new local painter who wanted to run an ad in Full Throttle Magazine. It was at this show that Mike’s work took first place in the Custom Paint competition. I spoke to Mike at length and got a feel for his work and his unique and extreme style. I saw a lot of passion, and many of his childhood heroes put to canvas on some of his sample work.
Mike’s artistic talent was evident and nurtured from the time he was a tiny toddler. As a young boy growing up, he was fond of the graffiti style technique and pretty much mastered it. Mike studied paint and airbrush techniques at SUNY in Farmingdale, where he earned a degree in Graphic Design. His niche products are fantasy based artistry in the likes of Luis Royo and Michael Whelan.
In 2002, Mike started working out of his garage painting t-shirts for Sweet 16’s and other party events, while working as a full time graphic design artist. The hours were long and demanding. Nonetheless, Mike knew that this was the road he needed to travel in order to become and independent artist, and to one day open his own shop. Eventually, the time came for his dream to come true and his newest creation “Painted Armor” opened its doors.
In August 2007, Mike went full time at Painted Armor in order to pursue his work, and to attend to his growing list of anxious customers.
His customers have included names such as Jeff Mose of the UFC. Mike was the key ingredient to the paint scheme for Joe Piroso’s 9/11 Tribute Bike, featured in the September 2007 issue of FTM. This past November the Nassau County Car and Bike Show, his work won first place for best paint on a Pick-Up.
Now at 29 years old, Mike is comfortable in the shoes he’s in and is a successful business owner, who is fulfilling his life’s passion and living the American dream. You can catch Mike and his art at many of the local motorcycle shows throught the year.
This talented artist has firmly paved the way for himself towards a future of success and I am glad we have been there to watch him grow. If you need to have your bike, car or truck struck with the brush and evoke a design that lends itself to the rider, Mike can deliver it with pure perfection. Some of us are not always sure of precisely what we want and might have several different ideas about the design. In this case, Mike is exceedingly skilled in capturing exactly what the customer desires with true excellence. Of course, one can always choose from the scores of custom designs that fill Mike’s portfolio of art and adorn the walls of his studio. You owe it to your ride to let Painted Armor do the skin on what4ever you run in the wind with.
